The STOP card in the bidding box is used before making an unexpected jump call (e.g. preempts) which requires LHO to wait 10 seconds before his/her call.
When using a bidding box, the player making the jump
- Pull the stop card from the bidding box and put it on the table so that LHO sees it clearly.
- Put the desired bid on the table.
- After 10 seconds, put back the stop card.
Now LHO may bid.
When bidding orally, the player making the jump
- Announce skip bid.
- Make the call.
Then LHO has to wait 10 seconds.
The STOP card is used to prevent passing unauthorised information between the opponents by unexpected hesitation. It must be used either all or no times when a jump call is made to prevent passing unauthorised information between partners.
